Villa Belvedere
Private residence lounge with olive-tree atrium, sage velvet seating, and travertine floors — full interior design for a repeat client.
Project Overview
Villa Belvedere is the second home of a long-standing client — a lakeside retreat used for three or four weeks a year. Our brief was to create a living room that feels lived-in from day one, with no fussy "second-home sterility".
Design Approach
We began with the olive tree. The client had brought a mature specimen from their garden in Tuscany and wanted it kept visible from the main sofa. We built the room around it — sunken slightly into the travertine floor, its canopy backlit by concealed linear LEDs.
Design Choices
- Sage-velvet modular sofas — two oversized pieces, arranged L-shape around a low oak platform rather than a coffee table. The L embraces the olive tree.
- Travertine floor — unfilled, honed finish. Large-format slabs (120×60cm) laid with minimal grout. Cool underfoot in summer, warm with underfloor heating in winter.
- Bar nook in book-matched walnut — doubles as a breakfast counter when the family is in residence.
- Lighting — warm 2700K throughout, dimmable to candle levels after 9pm.
Delivery
Site started January 2024, handed over September 2024. The client has since commissioned us for a third project.
