Chalet Kitzbühel
Alpine après-ski lounge concept for a 5-star mountain hotel — reclaimed larch, book-matched marble, macramé pendants, panoramic glazing.
Project Overview
A concept study for the après-ski lounge of a 5-star alpine hotel in Kitzbühel, currently in design competition. Our entry positions the lounge as a library of the mountain — warm, layered, and unrushed.
Design Approach
We wanted a room that works equally well at 4pm in boots and at 9pm in wool dresses. The material palette does most of the work: reclaimed larch boards (sourced within 30km) form the walls, a book-matched onyx floor anchors the bar, and macramé-wrapped pendants soften the ceiling's geometry. Panoramic glazing opens the room to the Hahnenkamm.
Concept Notes
- Three zones, no walls — bar, lounge, and reading corner divided by furniture and level changes instead of partitions. Circulation reads from the entrance.
- Material hierarchy — wood for warmth, stone for anchor, brass for age, textile for quiet. No chrome, no glass partitions, no MDF.
- Pendant groupings — three clusters of three, set low over the seating clusters so the light is intimate even when the room is full.
- Weathered leather armchairs — one for every two guests, arranged in conversation pairs.
