Casa della Biblioteca

Double-height private library and music room in a 600m² villa renovation — structural planning, millwork coordination, and technical documentation.

Project Overview

A complete renovation of a 19th-century villa in Chianti, with a double-height library and music room at its heart. Our role was technical and coordinative — translating the design concept into buildable drawings and keeping the millworkers, structural engineer, and acoustician working from the same set of truths.

Planning Scope

The library occupies the former hay loft. Opening the ceiling required removing four beams and introducing a discreet steel tie. The 6-metre-tall bookcase wall is structural — it carries part of the ceiling load back to the gable walls.

Technical Work

  • Structural drawings — coordinated with the engineer to introduce a hidden steel frame behind the oak shelving. No visible steel in the finished room.
  • Acoustic planning — the grand piano is centrally placed. We lined the back of the bookcase with sound-absorbing MDF panels and added a 40mm-thick wool rug with a dense underlay.
  • Millwork documentation — 84 pages of shop drawings for the bookcase system alone. Every shelf, every reveal, every fixing.
  • Lighting plan — linear LED washes at the top of each bookcase bay, plus three large Murano-style chandeliers on dimmed circuits.

Handover

Drawings issued in three packages: structural (January), shell (March), interior (June). Construction is ongoing; completion expected late 2026.
